Applesauce in a Crockpot
I like to go out to the apple-growing area of Missouri every fall and get several bags of apples. Some of them are good keepers and stored properly will last all the way through spring.
With others I make pies, and……applesauce!
And applesauce really is the easiest thing in the world to make—no recipe required. So I got started peeling and coring as many as I could fit in a crockpot.
Once I filled the pot I put maybe a quarter of a cup of water in the bottom and squeezed some lemon juice over them.
I cooked the apples on low for probably 8 hours. They browned a little, but I didn’t care since I was going to be loading them up with cinnamon anyway.
I just mash them in the crockpot. I like them a little chunky.
Then I taste test. I used Braeburn apples for this batch, and they really didn’t need much sugar. I tasted it, added about a tablespoon of sugar and stirred it in, then a rounded tablespoon of cinnamon.
I wanted a sauce loaded with cinnamon.
Then I had a bowl. So good!
